Open Access Day and the launch of the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association

October 14th saw the first international Open Access Day, which succeeded beyond
all expectation, with involvement from 100+ campuses on 5 continents.

BioMed Central participated in Open Access Day by co-hosting
(together with PLoS, SPARC and Wellcome) a launch event at the Wellcome Trust’s
London HQ for the new Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association. It was
great to see some of BioMed Central’s most active and enthusiastic editors and
authors at the event.

The Open Access Scholarly
Publishers Association
(of which BioMed Central is a founder member) aims
to represent the interests of the rapidly increasing number of scholarly
publishers committed to open access publishing.

For more details see the official
press release
announcing the launch of OASPA.
