Founded in 2004 at the conclusion of a World Health Organization study, the Network on Brief Interventions for Alcohol and Other Drugs (INEBRIA) aims to provide global leadership to researchers and practitioners interested in the potential of screening and brief intervention (SBI) to reduce alcohol and other drug-related harm.

INEBRIA provides global leadership in the development, evaluation and implementation of evidence-based practice in the area of early identification and brief intervention for unhealthy alcohol and other drug use. The Annual Conference serves to share information, experience, research findings and expertise, to promote best practice and encourage wide dissemination and implementation of effective practices, to identify gaps and needs for research, to promote international research cooperation and to model high standards for research and clinical care.
A thematic series (article collection) also published in the journal features invited papers from selected conference presentations. It is hoped that sharing this information will improve the evidence-based identification and treatment of unhealthy alcohol and other drug use. Addiction Science & Clinical Practice provides a forum for clinically relevant research and perspectives that contribute to improving the quality of care for people with unhealthy alcohol, tobacco, or other drug use and addictive behaviours across a spectrum of clinical settings.
