It is with great sadness that we announce that Kuan-Teh Jeang M.D. Ph.D., Associate Editor for Cell & Bioscience, passed away suddenly in the night of 27th January 2013.
Dr Jeang was a prominent figure in research on the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and the human tumor virus HTLV, and published prolifically on the disease-causing mechanisms of both these retroviruses. As well as a very successful researcher, he was the Editor-in-Chief of Retrovirology and had served as the president of the Society of Chinese Bioscientists in America in 2010-2011, two areas in which he was passionate –open access publishing and the representation of Asian-American scientists.
Dr Jeang was not only invaluable to Cell & Bioscience as an Associate Editor but was instrumental in the setting up of the journal and in ensuring it got tracked for an Impact Factor by Thomson ISI so soon after launch. He will be greatly missed by all at the journal and BioMed Central.
We extend all sympathy to his family, friends and colleagues.
