William Knaus is currently an Emeritus Professor of Public Health Sciences at The University of Virginia School of Medicine. From 1978 to 1995 he was Co-Director if the Intensive Care Unit at The George Washington University Medical Center, Washing D.C. where he developed the APACHE Classification system for critically ill patients. APACHE is used worldwide to measure severity and model outcomes in hospitals worldwide. At The University of Virginia, he founded a department aimed, in part, at integrating genomic research into clinical medicine. His latest software application, Health Heritage, a family medical history and genomic clinical decision support tool, was recently acquired by Genome Medical.
