Investigators from the Cauldwell Xtreme Everest research
project, which investigated human adaptation to environmental hypoxia on the
world’s highest peak, have published a commentary on their field study
in Critical Care.

The goal of the project, which
will feature in a BBC Horizon documentary
later this year, is to further understanding of human adaptation
to cellular hypoxia, a fundamental mechanism of injury in critical illness.

The corresponding author, Prof
Monty Mythen is a member of Critical Care’s international Editorial Board, and his
co-workers have previously published a review in the journal on
high-altitude pathophysiology.
