Regenerative Medicine Research is a new journal from BioMed Central, which published its first articles today.

The journal, edited by Y. James Kang (University of Louisville and Sichuan University), focuses on both the fundamental and practical aspects of regenerative medicine. Articles published in the journal will have a particular emphasis on translational work, addressing not only stem cells and tissue engineering, but also biomaterials, pharmaceutics, and other important elements of regenerative medicine. Regenerative medicine has become a key research focus across many different fields: the British Heart Foundation is focusing its efforts on replacing damaged cells in heart disease; the recent interest in 3D printing has highlighted a future for the 3D-bioprinting of organs; and several different research groups have generated organs and body parts from stem cells, such as the recent tooth-like structure from human urine.

In the journal’s launch editorial, Professor Kang describes the growth of research in the field, but emphasizes the fact that research on this topic is currently scattered across an array of journals in different fields, making it difficult to efficiently gather quality data and information. Regenerative Medicine Research aims to address this issue and make readily available to the scientific community high quality research, reviews, commentaries and other articles, on all topics relating to regenerative medicine.
