Prof. Leo Koenderman did his training as a master of science (biology) at the University of Utrecht (1978-1986). He later received his PhD at the University of Amsterdam on thesis describing mechanisms of activation of eosinophils and neutrophils in vitro and in vivo. In 1990 he joined the department of Respiratory Medicine at the University Medical Center Utrecht in Utrecht, The Netherlands. From 2012 he is also professor of Immunology of the Laboratory of Translational Immunology. His work focusses on fundamental and translational research regarding the underlying mechanisms of the effector phase of chronic inflammatory diseases. He is married, has three children and lives in Maartensdijk, The Netherlands.
