Today marks the inauguration of Donald J. Trump as the 45th President of the United States. At the dawn of this new era, we consider the future for emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, and the responsibility of the scientific and medical community to combat them.
Our microbiomes have evolved with us over the millenia – or perhaps it is we that have evolved with them. In any case, our relationship with our microbiome is really only now being explored, showing how beneficial and necessary they are to us. In view of this, I am using this New Year’s blog to speculate on how we may use the microbiome in the future.2
