BMC Global and Public Health: New journal to advance SDG research

We are delighted to announce the upcoming launch of the new selective BMC journal BMC Global and Public Health, to sit alongside BMC’s renowned and leading journals BMC Medicine and BMC Biology.

In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the monkeypox outbreak being declared a ‘public health emergency of international concern’ by the WHO, we as a pioneer in open access publishing and open science feel the urgency to provide a venue for high quality research advances in the global and public health fields. At BMC we already have a strong representation and excellent standing within the public health communities, especially owing to our largest OA title BMC Public Health and its engaged editors and editorial board. By launching this new selective journal, we aim to connect and support the global and public health communities around the world, which will enable us to have an even further reach and impact. Our goal is to promote health and well-being, and to advance health equity and policy making worldwide.

In line with BMC’s mission, BMC Global and Public Health will champion open science and immediate data sharing, supported by transparent peer review and open data policies, as well as adherence to community standards and policies. The journal is committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity; efforts are now underway to recruit an international Editorial Board, with a specific focus on Early Career Researchers, with broad and diverse expertise in all areas of global and public health to help us give a voice to the communities we aim to serve. This launch will further reinforce Springer Nature’s strong commitment to address the world’s challenges of sustainable development by advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that are encompassed within the journal’s scope such as SDG3: Good Health and Wellbeing and SDG10: Reduced Inequalities.

We plan to open for submission in the fall of 2022, and the journal will consider important advances and influential research and opinion in all areas of global and public health, including disease epidemiology, population health, health equity, environmental and occupational health, health policy, reproductive, maternal and child health, and social determinants of health. In order to engage the communities in open discussion, we will publish a unique set of high-impact content including Research, Systematic Reviews, Registered Reports, as well as Reviews, Comments, Forums, Perspectives and Matters Arising.
