Maternal filarial infection impacts childhood susceptibility to infection

The WHO’s Global Program to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis aims to eliminate this Neglected Tropical Disease through mass drug administration programs. Pregnant women and children under the age of 2 are currently not eligible to be part of this program. Yet Madhusmita Bal and colleagues show that children born to women who had the disease during pregnancy were more susceptible to filarial infection in childhood, so how can mass drug administration programs take this into account?
