The malarial parasite PTEX – a nexus for protein export into the erythrocyte host cell.

Inducible knockdown (in presence of anhydrotetracycline, ATc) of the HSP101 component of the PTEX in Plasmodium berghei. This ablation prevents export of a 55kDa into the host erythrocyte cytoplasm (as in absence of ATc), instead accumulating in the parasitophorous vacuole (image kindly provided by Tania de Koning Ward).
