Jun Huang, Roland Weber and Simona Balan

Dr. Jun Huang is an tenured associate professor of environmental chemistry in Tsinghua University, China. His major research focus is the monitoring and control of persistent organic pollutants (POPs), especially for the PFOS/PFOA and their fluorinated alternatives. He published more than 100 peer-reviewed professional papers and is the holder of 10 patents. He is also an active consultant for international projects related to the implementation of the Stockholm Convention in China.

Dr Roland Weber is a chemist and since more than 25 years has done research on persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and published more than 140 articles. Since 16 years his main work is consulting UN Organisations (UNIDO, UNEP, UNDP) and environmental ministries on the implementation of the Stockholm Convention on reduction of POPs. Since 13 years he is member of the UNEP working group on BAT/BEP and the Dioxin Toolkit.

Dr. Simona A. Bălan is a senior environmental scientist at the California Department of Toxic Substances Control, where she works to implement the Safer Consumer Products (SCP) regulations. She leads the SCP teams researching and regulating the use of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in certain consumer products. She also lectures in environmental health at the University of California, Berkeley.
