Chiropractic & Manual Therapies, which moved to publish with BioMed Central in 2005, has always focused on the publication of evidence-based research into the effectiveness of the treatments offered by the discipline and, as was hoped for by the societies that partner with it, the open access publishing model has played a significant role in reducing the barriers to research literacy in the field.

Since then, the journal has gone from strength-to-strength and we are pleased to announce that The UK College of Chiropractors has joined the Chiropractic and Osteopathic College of Australasia (COCA) and the European Academy of Chiropractic (EAC) to publish Chiropractic & Manual Therapies.

The UK College of Chiropractors is an academic, professional membership organisation with focuses on training, standards of practice, awareness and research in chiropractic; in November 2012 a grant of a Royal Charter to the College of Chiropractors was approved.

With its emphasis on evidence-based research you’ll find that the majority of work published in the journal is on the chiropractic care for musculoskeletal conditions. This is analysed extensively in the highly accessed review article UK evidence report on the effectiveness of manual therapies. The journal’s stance on subluxation, as well as that of the Editors’ and societies’, is the same as the one held by the UK General Chiropractic Council; “The chiropractic vertebral subluxation complex is an historical concept but it remains a theoretical model. It is not supported by any clinical research evidence that would allow claims to be made that it is the cause of disease.” This is reflected in many of the articles published in the journal including Simpson, Reggars, and Keating et al.

All articles can be accessed via the journal website and you can be notified whenever new research is published by signing up for journal article alerts.
