Immunotherapy goes broad at BioMed Central

In September 2009, Journal of Translational Medicine (JTM) and the then International Society for the Biological Therapy of Cancer (iSBTc) launched the Tumor Immunology and Biological Cancer Therapy section in the journal and with it JTM became a venue for the discussion of hot issues in tumor immunology which were highly relevant to translating novel immune interventions. Launched at a turning point in cancer immunotherapy, when considerable advances in understanding the relationship between the immune system and cancer started to translate to pioneering active immunotherapies, the section and journal quickly grew under the guidance of Section Editor Pedro Romero, and the renamed Society for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer (SITC), to become a leader in the field which has to date published more than 70 articles on the subject.

Owing to the advances in the field, SITC decided to start a new journal dedicated to the immunotherapy of Cancer and, at the society’s annual meeting in October, the submission system for Journal of ImmunoTherapy of Cancer (JITC) was launched. The official journal of SITC, edited by Pedro Romero, Journal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer is an open access, peer reviewed journal that encompasses all aspects of tumor immunology and cancer immunotherapy, from basic research through to clinical applications. SITC is offering its members waived article processing charges for manuscripts accepted in the journal before the end of 2013. To find out more about JITC, or to submit a manuscript, please visit the journal’s website.

Following the launch of the JITC, JTM’s Editor-in-Chief Francesco Marincola took the opportunity to broaden the scope of the Tumor Immunology and Biological Cancer Therapy section to encompass all research fields, including, but not limited to, cancer. Last week, the section was re-launched as the Immunobiology and immunotherapy section and, under the guidance of new Section Editor Adrian Bot, aims to enrich the communication between basic biological and immunological sciences and the clinical investigation arena across all disciplines. You can read more about the updated section in the editorial article or visit the section page.
