Valeska Ormazabal, Soumyalekshmi Nair, Felipe Zuñiga and Carlos Salomon

Associate Professor Carlos Salomon (BSc (Hons I), MPhil, DMedSc, PhD) is a worldwide expert in extracellular vesicles (EV) and gestational diabetes mellitus with over 140 publications, and over 8000 citations in the last 7 years. Dr Salomon´s research program has investigated the release of small EV(commonly known as exosomes) by the placenta and tumour cells during gestation and cancer progression, respectively, and their utility as a biomarker for a wide range of pregnancy complications and ovarian cancer.

Dr Soumya Nair is a postdoctoral fellow and her research in exosomes and gestational diabetes mellitus have been pioneering in the field and recognized through peer-reviewed publications with over 900 citations. Her research focuses on molecular mechanisms by which small extracellular vesicles mediate the pathophysiology of metabolic diseases such as diabetes and obesity with a focus on harnessing the biomarker and therapeutic potential of these vesicles.

Dr Valeska Ormazábal V. is an Associate Professor at the Universidad de Concepción, Chile. Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of glucose uptake and cell metabolism, focusing on diabetes mellitus. She has currently investigated the release of small EVs from the placenta and their role in developing complications in the offspring of mothers with gestational diabetes mellitus.

Dr Felipe Zuniga is an Associate Professor at the University of Concepcion, Chile. His research focuses on the relationship between metabolism, extracellular vesicles and cancer resistance and their utility as a new line of cancer treatment.
